The Golden Wood

I found myself in a golden wood
on an autumnal afternoon.
The sun was hidden behind a cloud
wrapping the trees in a misty gloom.
Still the color could not be veiled
and the leaves shone like doubloons.
As I walked among the silent trees,
I sang a song of an Elvan Queen
"Awake, Awake Oh Lady of White
slumber not in middle earth dream."
The answer came on a gentle breeze
That stirred the leaves with a sound like rain.
The center of the copse was suffused with light
As a bird trilled a single note in echo of her name.

Last Kiss

Beneath the chill October sky
A rose blows open just in time
to scoff at Autumn's wintry bite
and give summer one last kiss goodbye.

Haunted

In the stillness of the summer heat
I swear I heard a shadow neigh,
and as from the shifting of restless feet
a whispered rustle of phantom hay.

A Fairy's Tale

Once upon a summer sky
The fairies dreamed of candy clouds

Shaking out their wings, they left their forest beds
To follow the sugary scent that filled their little heads

Only Susan's wide brown eyes
witnessed the gossamer fairy flight

"Come sit at my table and I will delight, "
ordered the Queen of a foreign land
But her mead was not so sweet
as the candy cloud in their dream
and the fairies could not be turned from their plan

"We are delicious, taste and see", the phlox cried
bowing low as the fairy crowd passed them by

To other calls they paid no heed

For their destination was in their sights

Oh happy was the fairy king

Oh joyful was the fairy queen

The heady aroma that filled their dream

was the nectar of the legendary Ambrosia tree

Lucky

What will you find at the rainbow's end?

If it was a white picket fence, a victorian farmhouse and a barn with a red red roof

Would you call yourself lucky?

Seascape

Shades of blue, green, white, gray, brown and black are the colors that we associate most closely with the seaside

Look closer though and you might be surprised to find some other unsual colors in that palette.

Is there a usual color that speaks to you of the beach?

It has always been purple for me...

Cosmic

The great curling waves that roll in from sea to sand
mirror a spiral of stars flung across night sky
a distant galaxy

Kaleidoscope

With the slightest twist,
the shards of glass shift,
the colors drift,
a new pattern is formed.
